Think About It
A symbol of empirical power
forged in precious metal
torn from the earth
by the hands of the poor.
You wear it proudly,
boldly, even
resting above a teasing glimpse of cleavage.
Do you think about what it really means?
A powerful empire
used it to crush the life
from a man of peace.
Stilled his words
…or so they thought.
His words and actions
challenged the powerful,
shook the status quo,
inspired the poor,
the disabled,
the marginalized.
And now, there it lays.
Lifeless.
Resting on your pale skin
as you stand behind your white washed lectern
lying to protect the very people
who would be the first to cry out,
Crucify him!
Do you think about what it really means?
